下地塗料の開発
ミュー・グラウンド
研究の結果を基に、下地塗料を試作し「μ‐グラウンド」と命名した。その後、各方面より販売の要望が続出し、現在、株式会社文房堂より市販されている（パッケージデザイン三浦明範）1. 研究開発名 絵画下地塗料の開発

5. 研究開発の目的
今日、画家や学生の絵画制作現場では、油絵具のみならず、アクリル絵具やテンペラ、混合技法、その他のミクストメディアでの表現が特殊とは言えない状況にある。また、一般的な市販のキャンバスは、従来の前膠および、リンシード‐鉛白でのプレパレーションではなく、合成樹脂によるものに置き換えられている。そのため、絵具や下地塗料の剥落などの事故が多発している。これは後述するアンケート調査の中で、教育現場にある指導者からも報告されている。このことは、メーカーが提供するキャンバスのプレパレーションが、今日の画家や学生が求める表現には適していないものと言えるだろう。
また、手軽な下地塗料としてアクリリック・ジェッソがあるが、本来がアクリル絵具のためのプレパレーション用に開発されたものであるため、必ずしも、他の絵具にも適しているとは言えない。
その意味では、伝統的な膠下地が最も優れていることになるが、その体質顔料の代表である石膏や白亜が用いられたのは、その産地が近隣にあって安価に入手できることが最大の理由であったはずである。しかし、日本では良質の石膏や白亜は産出されず、輸入に依存しているのが現状で、その価格は現地の十数倍にもなってしまうという、矛盾を抱えている。
そのため、アクリリック･ジェッソのように手軽に使え、伝統的膠下地のような油性・水性の両方に適した下地塗料を開発することが急務であると判断した。対象とする絵具として、今日の表現に用いられる主な絵具である油絵具、アクリル絵具、テンペラとした。（平成16年度女子美術大学研究所年報より抜粋）
Summary
This project was the development of new ground that is painted under the paintings by cooperation with Shokozan Mining Inc. and Meiko Inc.
The present painters and students are painting with the materials of not only oil colors but acrylic colors, tempera, and others also. But neither the canvas maker nor the paints maker is making the goods suitable for the actual condition. So we decided to develop the ground which suited the demand of a painter or a student.
This ground should be suitable for not only oil but also water so that is required to be absorbency. At the same time it should be easy for all people without particular technique, because the traditional ground is the best but we have to gain training and experience for making it.
Then we took acrylic polymer emulsion for the binder. And we conducted some experiments and determined the optimal percentage of acrylic resin and the pigment.
50 or more painters and students were offered sample products, and questionnaires for the used comment were taken.
In the result, the new ground named “μ-Ground” was the best condition for
all of them who painted with oil colors, acrylic colors, tempera, mixed
technique, pencil, and so on.
